This month offers a chance to see this documentary about the developments around this old factory space in Barcelona's controversial industrial quarter, currently undergoing a radical transformation.

After years of pressure from various groups including architects, artists, sociologists, anthropologists and squatters; the old Can Ricart factory was saved from demolition.
Left abandoned for years, it became a space for the shared interpretation of memory.
With the onset of new construction work to build La Casa de les Llengües (a project conceived by the architectural agency EMBT), Can Ricart begins to reveal its richly populated history as each successive layer of earth is uncovered. Roman civilisation, industrial revolution, labour relations and political activism emerge on the construction site as theatrical stages where the conflict of interests has been continually played out, a reflection of the clash between opposing dreams and passions in this space which itself, seems to resist transformation.
